From the desk of Superintendent John Raven

Dear Pioneer Community,

As we step into the 2025–2026 school year, I am deeply honored and excited to serve as the new superintendent of the Pioneer Union Elementary School District. This district holds a special place in my heart — I spent 18 wonderful years here as both a teacher and an administrator, and I am truly grateful to return home to continue serving this remarkable community.

This year, our mission remains clear: to nurture each child as a whole person — academically, creatively, socially, and emotionally. Through rigorous instruction, rich arts and science opportunities, expanded technology, athletics, and character-building experiences, we will equip our students to succeed and thrive in an ever-changing world.

Our schools continue to be celebrated for exceptional teaching and well-rounded programs. Every campus in our district has earned the California Distinguished School title, a reflection of our dedication and commitment. Pioneer Middle School stands out as a Gold Ribbon School, recognized for its outstanding arts curriculum. Both Frontier and Pioneer Elementary Schools have been honored on the Campaign for Business and Educational Excellence Honor Roll. In addition, all of our schools have reached the highest recognition for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) as Champion Model Schools.

A thriving district depends on strong partnerships with families and our greater community. I invite you to stay connected and engaged in your child’s learning journey — whether through school events, volunteering, or staying informed through weekly bulletins and updates on our district website.

Thank you for entrusting us with your child’s education and for the encouragement, time, and care you give our schools. I look forward to building on our successes together and making the 2025–2026 school year an exceptional one for every student and family.

With gratitude,
