Important Notice: Transition to New Routing System
Bus Registration Guidance
We are pleased to share that PUESD is currently transitioning to a new and improved routing system called Bus Boss. This change will enhance the way we manage school bus routes and improve communication with families regarding transportation services.
As we work to fully integrate the new system, we want to clarify the current process for requesting school transportation.
What You Need to Know:
While completing your Annual Update or Initial Registration…
- No Action Required for Returning Bus Riders
If your student is already enrolled and has previously registered for school transportation, there is no need to re-register. Their existing transportation request will carry over into the new system. - Action Required for First-Time Riders Only
If your student will be riding the bus for the first time, please complete the following step during your Annual Update / Initial Registration: Once in the Transportation section, Check the box requesting transportation. - This ensures our team has accurate information to assign your student to a route.
- Next Steps
Once Bus Boss is fully implemented, we will send out additional information regarding how to access bus stop details, route assignments, and real-time transportation updates.
We appreciate your patience and support as we work to bring you a more modern and efficient transportation experience. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Transportation Department at piresd@puesd.net.
Transportation Eligibility
Pursuant to Board Policy 3541, students shall be eligible for transportation service to and from school if the distance between their school-established bus stop and the school is beyond the minimum listed below, for elementary school students:
- Grades K-5: One mile
- Grades 6-8: Two mile
Inter-district / Intra-district / Out of District Students
Pursuant to Board Policy 5116.1, the district shall not be obligated to provide transportation for students who attend school outside their attendance area.
However, upon parent/guardian request, the district shall provide transportation assistance to any student who is eligible for free or reduced-price meals and whose enrollment in a district school outside the student’s attendance area is a result of being a victim of bullying. (Education Code 46600)
Pursuant to Board Policy 5117, students admitted to the district on an interdistrict attendance permit are not eligible for transportation services to and from school.
Foggy Day Information
Pioneer Union Elementary School District will declare a foggy day schedule whenever visibility in our attendance area is diminished to the extent that it impairs safe transportation for our buses. Since fog may be localized in small areas, the declaration of a foggy day schedule is not dependent on neighboring schools. The foggy day schedule will only determine the school bus schedule for that day. School will start and end at the regular times even if the bus is delayed. You may choose to bring your child to school if you deem it is safe to drive. Your child will not be counted tardy until after the bus delay even if you choose to bring them later on a foggy day.
All classes begin on time. Buses will run according to the following schedule:
- Plan A – Buses pick-up 1 ½ hours late
- Plan B – Buses pick-up 2 ½ hours late
- Plan C – All morning buses cancelled
- Plan D – SCHOOL CANCELLED DUE TO SEVERE FOG CONDITIONS
Please note… all afternoon buses will run according to the regular schedule.
