Acceptable Use Agreement

The following agreement must be signed by the student and countersigned by the parent/guardian before use of technology in the District.

The Pioneer Educational Network is a network of computers and computer services offered to the staff and students of Pioneer Union Elementary School District. The Internet is a collection of networks that allows access to an unprecedented amount of tools and information. By combining these two entities the result is enhanced collaboration, learning and classroom instruction. We are pleased to be able to provide this level of technology to both staff and students.

With access to such a great wealth of tools and information, both staff and students (collectively referred to as “users”) must understand and practice proper ethical use. All users must understand their responsibilities regarding procedures, policy, and security before using the network.

Users of the Pioneer Educational Network understand that Pioneer Union ESD does not have control of the information on the Internet, although it attempts to provide prudent and available barriers. Other sites accessible via the Internet may contain material that is illegal, defamatory, inaccurate, or potentially offensive to some people. Pioneer Union ESD’s intent is to make Internet access available to further its educational goals and objectives; however, users may have the ability to access other materials, which may be inappropriate.

Pioneer Union ESD will make every effort to protect the identity and personal information of all staff and students. It is the district’s policy to never associate pictures and names, and to only publish pictures and videos of students in group shots and from a distance.

Pioneer Union ESD reserves the right to monitor and log all network activity including email and Internet use, with or without notice. Users should have no expectation of privacy or confidentiality when using these resources.

Pioneer Union ESD believes that the benefits to users from access to the Internet and email far exceed any disadvantages of access. Ultimately, parent(s) and guardian(s) of minors are responsible for setting and conveying the standards that their students should follow. To that end, Pioneer Union ESD supports and respects each family’s right to decide whether or not to allow their student access to the Internet through Pioneer’s and the Kings County Office of Education’s network.

At Pioneer Union ESD we use G Suite for Education. G Suite for Education is a set of education productivity tools from Google including Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Classroom. Students also use Google Cloud Print, Google Earth, Search and Assistant and YouTube.
